The Eurosport channels have officially closed down in the UK and Ireland after 36 years on the air.

Launched on February 5, 1989, the brand went through several iterations before disappearing from British and Irish screens at 2am on Friday morning as the two linear channels ended transmission.

The move had been in the works for three years after Warner Bros. Discovery - owner of Eurosport - signed a deal to take charge of BT Sport and rename the operation with its premium brand TNT Sports.

All Eurosport content has now migrated to become part of TNT Sports in the UK and Ireland, with coverage airing on the four linear channels and streaming service discovery+ - although the streaming content will move from discovery+ to WBD's other streamer, Max, when it launches in the UK and Ireland in January 2026.

WBD will continue to operate Eurosport across the rest of continental Europe and the Asia Pacific region for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, TNT Sports' portfolio now includes the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, Serie A, Premiership Rugby, England's rugby autumn internationals, French Open tennis, Australian Open tennis, the Olympics and Winter Olympics, World Snooker Championship, the Tour de France and major cycling tournaments, Super League triathlon, the NBA, Major League Baseball, major winter sports events and Aussie Rules.
