Result: Yorkshire thrash Hampshire in County Championship

PA | 4d
The Tykes hammered Hampshire.

Yorkshire's unbeaten start to the Specsavers County Championship season continued as they romped to an innings-and-44-run victory over Hampshire.

With five wickets required on the final day, Ben Coad took three before Duanne Olivier and captain Steven Patterson struck in the afternoon.

Hampshire put up a fight with a 131-run ninth-wicket partnership between Liam Dawson and Keith Barker, who hit 92 and 64 respectively, but it was not enough at the Ageas Bowl.

Surrey batted convincingly to secure a draw against Essex at the Kia Oval as they started their Division One title defence.

England pair Rory Burns and Ollie Pope put on a third-wicket partnership of 127 and Will Jacks recorded his second half-century of the game as Surrey reached 324 for six in their second innings before declaring.

Essex spinner Simon Harmer was the pick of the bowlers, ending the day with figures of five for 88 from 36 overs.

Kent were made to wait until the final session to complete an eight-wicket win over Warwickshire at Edgbaston.

Warwickshire, following on 158 behind, showed some lower-order resilience with an eighth-wicket stand of 144 between Tim Ambrose and Henry Brookes.

But the partnership was broken and the remaining three wickets fell in 22 balls, setting Kent a target of 123 in 31 overs.

They eased to their total, reaching 124 for the loss of two wickets after just 19.4 overs.

In Division Two, Glenn Maxwell recorded career-best bowling figures as Lancashire stormed to a seven-wicket win over Middlesex.

In only Middlesex's third Championship defeat at home in five years, Maxwell claimed his maiden first-class five-wicket haul for 40 runs in 16.5 overs and was well-supported by James Anderson, who took three for 29.

The hosts started the day 94 runs behind and made 200 courtesy of half-centuries from Dawid Malan and Sam Robson, leaving Lancashire to knock off the remaining 39 runs for the loss of three wickets.

Stiaan Van Zyl recorded an unbeaten 101 as Sussex recorded their first victory of the season, defeating Durham by six wickets.

Worcestershire only needed one session to take the required six wickets as they stormed to an innings-and-17-run victory over Leicestershire at New Road.

The visitors started the day on 132 for four, needing another 119 to make Worcestershire bat again, and the game was set in motion when they lost three wickets for just three runs early on.

Derbyshire comfortably batted out for a draw against Gloucestershire, with Wayne Madsen finishing unbeaten on 204 and Alex Hughes 109.

Kiran Carlson scored a century in a session as Glamorgan and Northamptonshire played out a draw at the SWALEC Stadium.

Northamptonshire made the highest score ever recorded at the ground, an impressive 750, which included three centuries, before Glamorgan batted again for 18 overs, scoring 70 for the loss of one wicket.
