Abbas claims ten wickets as Pakistan thrash Australia

It was Australia’s fourth heaviest ever Test defeat.

Australia collapsed against the bowling of Mohammad Abbas as Pakistan won the second Test by 373 runs to clinch a 1-0 series victory.

The Pakistani bowler became the first fast bowler to take 10 wickets in a match in the UAE, dismissing all but one of Australia’s top order in the second innings.

Abbas built on his first innings performance when he took four wickets in 15 balls in the opening session of the match to take his series total to 17.

With Usman Khawaja missing with an injury to his left knee sustained during the warm-up before day three, Australia’s remaining batting line up fell for just 164 runs chasing a 538-run target.

The visitors had a defiant partnership of 67 between Marnus Labuschagne, who top scored with 43, and Mitchell Starc before the latter was out lbw to Yasir Shah.

Australia’s loss marks their worst defeat to Pakistan and their fourth heaviest defeat ever in Test cricket when batting last.

With the Australian summer about to start and home Tests against India and Sri Lanka to come, new coach Justin Langer will be hoping to quickly put this defeat behind them.
