India will be looking to complete a series whitewash when they face England in the third and final T20 International at Trent Bridge.

Although England have lost the series following a 49-run defeat at Edgbaston, the hosts will be determined to collect a consolation victory on Sunday.

Match preview

Jos Buttler has experienced a baptism of fire in his new role as England's white-ball captain after suffering a series defeat to India in his first two games in charge.

The new white-ball coach Matthew Mott has also failed to match the early success that his colleague Brendon McCullum has experienced as England's red-ball head coach.

After losing the first T20 by 50 runs, England knew that a victory was required on Saturday if they were to set up a winner-take-all game at Trent Bridge.

The hosts managed to restrict India to a total of 170, and with the likes of Buttler, Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone in their ranks, they would have been quietly confident of levelling the series.

However, for the second straight game, England lost three wickets in the powerplay, which ultimately ruined their chances of chasing down the target.

Although the series may be over, Buttler will be determined to get his first win under his belt as full-time captain, while a victory would also act as a confidence boost ahead of the one-day International series against India, which begins next week.

Meanwhile, India will be aiming to complete a series whitewash after picking up comprehensive victories in the first two T20 internationals.

India entered the second T20 International looking to wrap up the series, and after being put in to bat, the visitors got off to a flying start.

However, after enjoying a 49-run opening partnership, India were reduced to 89-5 with Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli dismissed in consecutive balls.

Ravindra Jadeja finished not out after scoring 46 off 29 balls to help his country set England a total of 170.

India may have had concerns about whether their total was below par, but those worries proved to be unfounded as they skittled England out for a measly 121.

The result sealed India's fourth T20 International series victory in 2022, but Rohit Sharma will be imploring his side to avoid resting on their laurels as they look to clinch a 3-0 series win.

Team News

Having scored only eight runs between them in the opening two matches, England's opening partnership of Roy and Buttler will be looking to perform on Sunday.

Although no England player has scored a half-century in the series, Dawid Malan, Liam Livingstone, Harry Brook and Moeen Ali are expected to keep their places in the batting lineup.

After taking three wickets for 15 runs on his International debut, Richard Gleeson will also retain his spot in the side for the final match of the series.

Tymal Mills could return to the lineup after being rested in Saturday's game, which could result in one of Sam Curran or David Willey dropping out of the side.

After being rested for the first T20 international, Jasprit Bumrah, Kohli, Pant and Jadeja all came into the side for the win at Edgbaston.

The quartet are all expected to retain their places in the side, with India set to name an unchanged lineup for the third and final T20.

Pandya is currently India's highest run-scorer and leading wicket-taker in the series, and the player of the series contender will be looking to put in another high-quality display at Trent Bridge.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar took three wickets on Saturday, and after taking the wicket of Jason Roy with the first ball of England's innings, the 32-year-old will open the bowling once again on Sunday.

England squad:Jos Buttler (Captain, wk), Moeen Ali, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Richard Gleeson, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Tymal Mills, Matthew Parkinson, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, David Willey

India squad:Rohit Sharma (Captain), Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Shreyas Iyer, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel, Umran Malik

Series so far

First T20: India won by 50 runs
India 198/8 (20 overs)
England 148 all out (19.3 overs)

Second T20: India won by 39 runs
India 170/8 (20 overs)
England 121 all out (17.0 overs)

We say: India win

Trent Bridge usually gives batsmen the chance to score quick runs, and with the visitors in form, we think that they could make full use of the relatively small boundaries.

Although England will be determined to win their first game under Buttler's captaincy, we think that India will once again have the upper hand to claim a series whitewash.
