Sports Mole

Even though cricket is not so popular in some parts of the world, it is definitely one of the most interesting sports to watch. That's why there are numerous cricket leagues, which allow fans to watch their favorite teams.

The earliest reference of this sport dates back to the mid 16th century in South East England. After it became popular in England, the British Empire spread it around the world. With that being said, here are some of the most popular cricket leagues in the world.

Indian Premier League

India is one of the world's largest countries, which is why people there like all sorts of sports, including cricket. Some sources claim that this may be the most loved sport in the country, so the Indian Premier League can definitely be considered the most prestigious and famous cricket league in the world. That's why the vast majority of online bookmakers have created unique markets for people who want to bet on cricket matches that take place in the IPL.

The league began its existence in 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Since then, the sport has become even more popular, which is why it attracts viewers from all over the world.

Pakistan Super League

Besides India, another country where you may find loads of intriguing cricket matches is Pakistan. The Pakistan Super League was created just a few years ago (in 2016), which means that it is eight years younger than the IPL.

The first season of this T20 cricket league was won by Islamabad United, which is still one of the country's best teams. In addition to 2016, they also won the league in 2018.

Big Bash League

Australia's T20 Cricket League is called Big Bash League, and it is definitely one of the most impressive cricket competitions in the world. There are many great teams that you can find here, such as the Sydney Sixers, who won the first season of the BBL back in 2011.

Bangladesh Premier League

The next league that every cricket fan should keep an eye on is located in Bangladesh. This fantastic country started its own competition back in 2012, and since then, it is widely regarded as one of the most prestigious cricket leagues in the world.

Interestingly, it consists of seven franchises, and it is one of the three professional leagues in the country. Once the season comes to an end, the best four teams proceed to the playoffs, where they have to play in a best-of-one game. After that, there are two qualifiers games, followed by the Championship event.

Caribbean Premier League

Last but not least, we have the Caribbean Premier League, a competition that the Cricket West Indies founded in 2013. Perhaps the most famous team from the region is the Jamaica Tallawahs, which also happen to be the inaugural tournament champions.

Another interesting fact is that Shahrukh Khan holds a team in this league called Tinbago Knight Riders.
