An inexperienced England side have recorded a 48-run victory over Ireland in the second one-day international.

After the first fixture was washed out earlier this week, the two sides went into the game at Trent Bridge knowing that victory would guarantee them at least a share of the series.

Despite England losing captain Zak Crawley to a second-ball duck at 56-2, they were never in danger of losing, Will Jacks and Sam Hain starring with the bat and Rehan Ahmed with the ball.

Jacks made a superb 94 from 88 balls - hitting seven fours and four maximums in the process - while Hain impressed on debut in the second half of the innings, making 89 from 82 deliveries.

Ben Duckett contributed a valuable 48 and Brydon Carse chipped in with 32 from 30, helping England make 334-8 off their 50 overs.

Ireland made a terrific start with their reply, hitting 46 off just 23 balls, but George Scrimshaw and Matthew Potts halted them in their tracks with wickets in successive deliveries.

From there, Ireland were nowhere near to putting together a competitive run chase, with Ahmed taking four wickets to add to the two apiece for Scrimshaw and Potts to reduce their opponents to 188-8.

Harry Tector (39) and George Dockrell (43) - who also took 3-43 with the ball - kept Ireland ticking order, as did Barry McCarthy (41) towards the end of the game.

Craig Young (40*) and Josh Little (29) put on a further 55 for the last wicket to take Ireland up to 286 all out from 46.4 overs, with Scrimshaw ending with figures of 3-66 on debut. body check tags ::
