Josh Warrington has beaten Lee Selby by split decision to win the IBF world featherweight title in Leeds.

The 27-year-old produced the best performance of his career in front of a raucous home crowd at Elland Road to claim his first world title in convincing fashion, despite only being awarded the victory by two of the three judges.

Warrington surprisingly outboxed Selby from the opening bell, with the defending champion left bloodied after two clashes of the head which were adjudged to have been accidental.

Selby was left aggrieved after his fifth defence of the title ended in the second defeat of his career, but there was little doubt as to who had won the fight when the final bell went.

The announcement of a split decision was greeted by boos by the fans inside Elland Road - home of Warrington's beloved Leeds United - with the first judge ruling Selby to have won the fight 115-13.

However, Warrington was handed the victory by the other two judges, with scores of 116-112 and 115-113, to become the first ever boxing world champion from Leeds and maintain his flawless record, which now stands at 27-0.
