Former world welterweight champion Kell Brook announces his retirement from boxing after a 43-fight career.
Sports Mole

Former world welterweight champion Kell Brook has announced that he is retiring from boxing at the age of 36.

In February, Brook finally got the opportunity to fight long-term rival Amir Khan, ending that chapter conclusively with a six-round stoppage in Manchester.

Since then, Brook has been offered the chance to fight either Conor Benn or Chris Eubank Jnr, the latter appearing most likely at one stage with Eubank being willing to drop down to 158lbs.

However, the Sheffield man has instead opted to hang up his gloves, ending a storied career with 40 wins and three defeats.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Brook said: "I've had a long chat with my family and my parents, and it's over for me. I'll never box again.

"It's a little emotional to be actually saying this out loud. My mum is relieved. I think everyone around me is pleased. Truth is, boxing is a very very tough, dangerous sport, one in which you can be legally killed in the ring, and I've finished now with all my faculties intact."

The crowning moment of Brook's career was winning the IBF title against Shawn Porter in 2014, his only defeats coming against pound-for-pound fighters in Gennady Golovkin, Errol Spence Jnr and Terence Crawford. body check tags ::
