Boxing legend Jake 'The Raging Bull' LaMotta dies at the age of 95

Legendary boxer Jake 'The Raging Bull' LaMotta dies at the age of 95.

Boxing legend Jake LaMotta has died at the age of 95 following complications from pneumonia, his wife Denise has confirmed.

The American sportsman, nicknamed The Raging Bull, was a former middleweight champion who won 83 of his 106 professional bouts between 1941 and 1954.

Thirty of those victories were by way of knockout, and the New York-born boxer also recorded four draws, as well as 19 defeats during his career in the ring.

LaMotta's wife Denise told TMZ: "I just want people to know, he was a great, sweet, sensitive, strong, compelling man with a great sense of humor, with eyes that danced."

The fighter had a fierce rivalry with Sugar Ray Robinson, whom he fought six times but only managed to win one of those meetings.

LaMotta was the subject of the Martin Scorsese-directed film Raging Bull, in which Robert De Niro portrayed the boxer.
