Jayson Tatum set a new record for points in the NBA All-Star Game as Team Giannis edged out Team Lebron 184-175 at the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Tatum notched a staggering 55 points - breaking the previous record of 52 set by Anthony Davis in 2017 - and he was named the All-Star Game's MVP in the process.

Tatum also hit 10 rebounds for Team Giannis, while LeBron James was forced to sit out the second half of the exhibition contest after picking up a finger injury.

However, Tatum admitted after the game that he is not expecting his record to last for long, telling reporters: "It means the world. You think of all the legends and great players that have played this game.

"In all honesty, records are made to be broken. I'll hold it as long as I can but I'm certain somebody will come along in a couple of years and try to break it."

James broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's all-time NBA scoring record earlier this month, and he is now level with the 75-year-old on 19 All-Star selections, but he only recorded 13 points before damaging his finger against the rim.

In James's absence, Jaylen Brown led the way for Team LeBron with 35 points and 14 rebounds, while Kyrie Irving posted 15 assists. body check tags ::
