Result: DeMarcus Cousins shines as Golden State Warriors hold on for victory

They almost let a 14-point lead slip against the Houston Rockets.

DeMarcus Cousins produced a stellar performance as the Golden State Warriors edged out the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center.

The 28-year-old posted season-highs in points (27) and assists (seven) in addition to eight rebounds as the Warriors narrowly won 106-104, ending the Rockets' nine-match winning streak.

The visitors were without injured All-Star Kevin Durant due to an ankle injury, but Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson led Golden State into a 14-point fourth-quarter lead thanks to their 24 and 30-point displays respectively.

Houston managed to reduce the gap to 104-103 when Chris Paul hit a three-pointer with just 10.8 seconds left, but Curry held his nerve to land two free throws with eight seconds on the clock to seal victory – only after James Harden, who finished with a double-double, failed with two attempts of his own.

The Oklahoma City Thunder produced a fine comeback to see off the Brooklyn Nets in a 108-96 victory.

Thunder trailed by 17 points early in the second quarter but hit back with a 38-point third quarter after scoring just 42 in the whole of the first half.

But a triple-double performance of 31 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists from Russell Westbrook and 25 points from Paul George secured victory – their 14th this season after trailing by double figures at some point in the match.

The Utah Jazz eased past the Phoenix Suns in a 114-97 triumph, with Donovan Mitchell leading with 26 points.

Rudy Gobert put in a huge display on the boards with 20 rebounds and also poured 18 points, while struggling Phoenix, who have had an upturn in form in recent weeks, lost for just the third time in eight matches despite Devin Booker's 27 points.

The Miami Heat strolled past the Detroit Pistons 108-74, where the hosts scored 21 straight points in the third quarter as Detroit registered just eight in that 12-minute spell.

John Collins, Trae Young and Alex Len combined for 69 points as the Atlanta Hawks won 132-111 against the Memphis Grizzlies, while the Washington Wizards sealed a 100-90 success against the Orlando Magic.
