Sir Mo Farah has announced that he will make his return to competitive running at the Vitality London 10,000 in May.

The 38-year-old was at one point considering his future in athletics after failing to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and then took time out for a foot fracture.

Farah insisted that he wanted to finish on his own terms following the injury, and the four-time Olympic champion has now confirmed that he will seek his eighth London 10,000 title in this year's race.

"I'm really looking forward to getting out there and racing again at an event that I really love," Farah told vitalitylondon10000.co.uk.

"I've been working hard to get back into shape following my injury last summer and I've got a few more months of hard training ahead of me, so it's good to have a target like the Vitality London 10,000 to work towards.

"I have great memories of the event. I have won it seven times and racing in central London is something you can never get bored of. The atmosphere among the thousands of participants is always fantastic and I can't wait to be part of it again."

Farah won the 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2018 and 2019 editions of the London 10,000, setting a British 10 km record of 27:44 in 2010 before it was equalled by Emile Cairess in Valencia. body check tags ::
