England's Dina Asher-Smith wins bronze in the women's 200m final at the Commonwealth Games, pippiing Elaine Thompson to the podium by just one hundredth of a second.

Team England's Dina Asher-Smith has held on for a bronze medal in the women's 200m final at the Commonwealth Games.

The 22-year-old - who is the British record-holder in the event - led a world-class field round the bend, but began to fade on the home straight.

Jamaica's Elaine Thompson, Olympic champion in the 100m and 200m in Rio, threatened to overtake Asher-Smith on her outside, but the Englishwoman rallied in the final metres of the race to win bronze by just one one-hundredth of a second.

The high-quality final saw Bahamian Shaunae Miller-Uibo claim gold, crossing the line in a Games-record time of 22.09s to add the Commonwealth title to her 400m Olympic crown.

Shericka Jackson - who won bronze in that Olympic 400m final - picked up the silver medal with a personal-best time of 22.18s.

England's Bianca Williams also qualified for the final, but her time of 23.06s saw her finish sixth.
