Bahamas sprinter Shaunae Miller stumbles across the finish line to claim Olympic gold in the women's 400m final.

Bahamian sprinter Shaunae Miller literally dived across the finish line in order to secure Olympic gold in the women's 400m this evening.

The 22-year-old had led the race from the off but was pushed hard in the final straight by defending champion Allyson Felix of Team USA as a photo-finish beckoned.

At the final moment, the pressure took its toll on Miller and her legs gave way as she crossed the line while tumbling to the floor.

Miller's final time of 49.44 gave her not only a new PB but also the gold medal, just seven-hundredths of a second ahead of veteran Felix, who is most likely competing at her final Olympic Games.

The final spot on the podium went to Jamaica's Shericka Jackson, who clocked a time of 49.85s.
