Britain's Harriet Dart missed out on a place in the Indian Wells Masters quarter-finals as she was defeated by the USA's Madison Keys in straight sets in Tuesday's last-16 clash.

The qualifier made it past Ana Konjuh, Elina Svitolina and Kaia Kanepi to make it to the fourth round and attempt to become the first British woman to make the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 event.

However, Keys proved too strong for Dart on the day and stormed to a 6-1 6-4 victory in front of the home crowd, with the Brit proving resilient in the second set after being blown away in the first.

Keys had to wait until the ninth game of the second set to earn the vital break and served for the match with new balls at 5-4, and despite failing to take one match point, the American made no mistake on her next serve.

A total of 10 double faults were recorded in the contest - six for Dart and four for victor Keys - with the latter only posting a 44% success rate on her first serve but recovering with an 87% win percentage on her second serve.

Keys will now face Iga Swiatek of Poland in the quarter-finals, while defending men's champion Cameron Norrie is now GB's only hope in the singles tournaments as he meets Jenson Brooksby on Wednesday. body check tags ::
