Andy Murray has insisted that his French Open semi-final with Stanislas Wawrinka will be an "extremely tough" test.

The world number two progressed to the last four at Roland Garros for the third consecutive year by defeating Richard Gasquet on Wednesday, but will now have to knock out the defending champion in order to reach the final for the first time in his career.

"Stan's played great tennis and is the defending champion," Murray said after the match. "It's going to be extremely tough.

"We haven't played each other for a while. Hopefully I can play my best and reach my first final here."

Murray and Wawrinka have faced each other 15 times previously and the Scot holds the narrow head-to-head lead, with eight wins to his Swiss opponent's seven.
