Great Britain's Andy Murray kicked off his bid for Miami Open glory with a straight sets victory over Argentina's Federico Delbonis in round one.

The three-time Grand Slam winner claimed a 7-6 (7-4) 6-1 win over his counterpart to advance to the second round, with Delbonis losing four consecutive points in the first-set tie-break as Murray gained the upper hand.

The Brit took three of his opportunities to break the Delbonis serve in the second set, though, and he has been rewarded with a tie against world number two Daniil Medvedev, who is seeking to displace Novak Djokovic at the top of the ATP rankings again.

Murray took one hour and 33 minutes to sweep aside Delbonis in round one and is seeking to add to his 2009 and 2013 triumphs in the Miami Open, while he was also defeated by Djokovic in the 2015 final.

Murray's compatriot Heather Watson also advanced to the next round of the women's singles event on Thursday by beating Elina Svitolina, but Emma Raducanu suffered a dramatic collapse against Katerina Siniakova to bow out in the second round.
