The former England wing had spent seven years as a player with the Sharks from 2000-2007.

On this day in 2009, Jason Robinson was appointed head coach of Premiership club Sale on an initial two-year deal.

The former England wing had spent seven years as a player with the Sharks from 2000-2007.

Robinson had played nine years of rugby league before changing to the 15-a-side game and won 51 caps for England.

He also became the first black player to captain England in a rugby union Test in 2005, and was the 118th player to take charge of England as well as the first former professional rugby league footballer to do so.

Robinson played all seven games in England's triumphant 2003 World Cup campaign and toured with the British and Irish Lions in 2001 and 2005.

Having made the switch to union, he scored more than 200 points for Sale, leading the club to their first ever Premiership title in 2005, before calling time on his playing career after the 2007 World Cup final.

Robinson had the position at Sale for just over a year before a shake-up of the club included the appointment of former All Black Mike Brewer at the end of the 2009-10 season.
