BT Sport defends Steve McManaman over Wolverhampton Wanderers comment

BT Sport says that comments made by Steve McManaman regarding Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of its coverage on Saturday evening 'were taken out of context'.

BT Sport has released a statement to defend commentator Steve McManaman after an off-air comment was picked up by a microphone.

McManaman had just finished covering Wolverhampton Wanderers' 2-2 draw with Everton for the broadcaster when he was heard saying "I don't like Wolves" at the end of the game.

The comment resulted in Wolves fans taking to social media to criticise the former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder, but BT Sport has moved to clear up the incident.

After being contacted by the Express & Star, BT Sport said in a statement: "BT Sport broadcast a very small part of an off-air conversation before realising the error and switching the microphone off. As a result, viewers heard a very small part of a much longer comment on the match and this has been taken out of context."

Some supporters had called for McManaman to be removed from his position with the broadcaster.
