World Cup champions France to be awarded Legion of Honour

:Headline: World Cup champions France to be awarded Legion of Honour:
France's victorious World Cup players will all be awarded the Legion of Honour, the office of French president Emmanuel Macron announces.

The office of French president Emmanuel Macron has announced that France's World Cup-winning squad will be awarded the Legion of Honour.

Les Bleus secured their second world title after running out 4-2 winners over Croatia in Sunday's final at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium.

A ceremony will be taking place to hand over France's highest award for "exceptional service" to the nation, though no date has yet been confirmed.

Victory at Russia 2018 comes 20 years after the victorious team led by captain - and current coach - Didier Deschamps, which also earned them a Legion of Honour from then-president Jacques Chirac.

The team returned from Moscow to Paris on Monday afternoon and paraded the trophy down the Champs Elysees avenue before meeting with Macron and his wife Brigitte at the presidential palace.

A number of subway stations in the French capital have been temporarily renamed in honour of the victorious team. body check tags ::
