Chinese broadcaster drops Premier League amid China-UK tensions

:Headline: Chinese broadcaster drops Premier League amid China-UK tensions:
Chinese state broadcaster CCTV cuts transmission of the Premier League as tensions between the UK and China continue to rise.

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV has stopped airing Premier League matches with immediate effect as tensions continue to escalate between China and the UK.

China has courted massive controversy in recent months by deciding to impose a new security law in Hong Kong that the UK says breaches the agreement giving the region autonomy under the one country, two systems method of governance.

The British government has responded by inviting BNOs in Hong Kong to move to the UK and has also decided to eradicate Chinese tech firm Huawei's involvement in the UK's 5G network.

According to Variety, CCTV decided not to show last night's eight-goal thriller between champions Liverpool and Chelsea and will also not be broadcasting the final matchday of the season on Sunday.

Chinese companies have significant investments in English football teams, headlined by multinational Fosun - owners of Wolverhampton Wanderers - and conglomerate China Media Capital's minority stake in Manchester City.

Aston Villa, Southampton, West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City also have Chinese backing. body check tags ::
