Europe skipper hails Molinari as Italian and Fleetwood prove winning combination

Bjorn's side have been spearheaded by the Italian and his partner.

Europe's Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn marvelled at Francesco Molinari's golf from another planet after the Italian and Tommy Fleetwood made it four points from four to put their team in a commanding position.

The Open champion and his team-mate became the first European pairing to win all four matches together, and only the second combination in the event's history, with some devastating play over the last two days at Le Golf National.

They have won 2&1, 4&3 and 5&4 twice to help Europe into a 10-6 lead and the home team require four-and-a-half points to win back the trophy they lost at Hazeltine two years ago.

"There's not much you can say about it. It's a remarkable performance, and that pairing came out of long conversations with the two of them, and a relationship they built with each other over a long time," said Danish skipper Bjorn.

"I started looking at facts and figures and everything that was built around them.

"Speaking to the stats guys and vice-captains, there was never any red flags with the two of them, so I thought, 'OK, we'll give it a go', but from there to what they have done is pretty remarkable.

"Francesco, I don't know what planet he lives on but it's not the one that the rest of the players live on, that's for sure. He's been phenomenal these two days."

Despite the confidence their form over the last two days has given them, Bjorn has warned his players that history has shown the match is far from settled.

The United States famously came from 10-6 down to win at Brookline in 1999 and Europe did the same at Medinah in 2012, although Europe also went on to win by a record-equalling nine points having led 10-6 at The K Club in 2006.

"You keep reminding yourself that we had a big lead at Valderrama; we had a big lead at Brookline, and at Valderrama, we won, but only just," Bjorn said.

"At Brookline we lost. At Medinah we were a long way behind and we turned it around.

"So history will show me and everybody on that team that this is not over. That's what it's all about.

"You go full bore tomorrow. Get out there and do all the right things, and this is not over till you've got the points on the board."
