New Zealand's Ryan Fox has produced a final-round 67 to win the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Having posted a triple-bogey at the third hole, Fox may have felt that his title challenge was realistically over given the standard of player in the field.

However, the world number 42 put together a majestic display in what were not always favourable playing conditions, making eight birdies in his final 13 holes.

The key period was between holes 10 and 15 - Fox making five birdies in six holes - before he holed a six-foot put down the hill on the last to claim the biggest triumph of his career.

Tyrrell Hatton was the player to miss out having led for much of Sunday's play, with a bogey when the rain was at its hardest before a delay costing the Englishman.

Compatriot Aaron Rai almost made a final-hole eagle from 38 feet to put extra pressure on Fix, yet a round of 68 earned him a share of second.

Jon Rahm flirted with the top of the leaderboard before finishing in fourth on his own, ahead of Ryder Cup teammates Viktor Hovland and Tommy Fleetwood who were fifth and sixth respectively.

Rory McIlroy produced one of the rounds of day, hitting a 65 to catapult himself 28 places up the standings, but young Swede Ludvig Aberg endured one of the most disappointing days of his short professional career, dropping down to a tie for 10th with a 76 after beginning Sunday in the lead.
