Ian Poulter is among a number of LIV Golf players who have been granted permission to play at this week's Scottish Open.

After a selection of their members took the opportunity to pen lucrative contracts with the Saudi Arabia-backed LIV Golf Series, the PGA Tour reacted by suspending those who had signed up for the rival tour with immediate effect.

The DP World Tour followed by dishing out punishments of their own, which saw six-figure fines administered and bans put in place for the Scottish Open, one of the tour's most lucrative events.

That initially led to 16 players being unable to tee it up at the final event before next week's Open Championship, instead seemingly having to use the ongoing pro-am event at Adare Manor as their last tournament before the showpiece at St Andrews.

However, it was revealed on Monday night that bans imposed on Poulter, Justin Harding and Adrian Otaegui had been temporarily lifted, leading to the trio being added to the field at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick.

In response to the decision, DP World Tour chief Keith Pelley acknowledged his disappointment in the outcome of the appeal that had been made earlier in the day.

A statement read: "I will simply say we are disappointed by the outcome of today's hearing, but will abide by the decision.

"It is important to remember, however, this is only a stay of the sanctions imposed, pending the hearing of the players' appeal as to whether those sanctions were appropriate.

"The make-up of the field for the Genesis Scottish Open will be advised in due course, but based on this decision the field size will increase beyond 156. We will make further comment on this in due course, but not during our time at Adare Manor [for the JP McManus Pro-Am]."

Poulter had earlier been quoted by BBC Sport as saying that he had been left "disappointed and offended" by being banned by the DP World Tour.

The three players mentioned participated in the second LIV Golf event in Oregon last weekend, Harding the best performer with a ninth-placed finish.

Otaegui ended the competition in 21st position, with Poulter down in 41st spot. body check tags ::
