Charles Leclerc will start the Monaco Grand Prix on pole after Q3 is ended early due to a crash involving Sergio Perez.

With 30 seconds remaining, Perez spun before entering the tunnel, damage already being caused to his Red Bull before Carlos Sainz Jnr made the same mistake just seconds later and crashed into the stationary car.

Already sitting at the top of the standings, Leclerc was on another hot lap, but it proved irrelevant as a red flag brought a permanent halt to qualifying.

Barring any punishment for his part in the aftermath of Perez's crash, Sainz will join his Ferrari teammate on the front row, with Perez and Championship leader Max Verstappen in third and fourth respectively.

The British duo of Lando Norris and George Russell - in their McLaren and Mercedes respectively - secured their spots on the third row of the grid.

Fernando Alonso in the Alpine benefitted from the early stoppage to qualify in seventh, one place ahead of Lewis Hamilton. body check tags ::
