Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly made an approach for Bordeaux forward Hwang Ui-jo.

Earlier in the summer transfer window, the West Midlands outfit allowed Fabio Silva to sign for Anderlecht on a season-long loan deal.

That left Raul Jimenez as Bruno Lage's solitary centre-forward, but the Mexican will be absent until at least September with a knee injury.

Although Lage can use the likes of Hwang Hee-chan and Daniel Podence down the middle of his attack, it appears that owners Fosun International are open to signing a second South Korean player for the final third.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Wolves have already put forward a proposal for Hwang's international teammate and namesake.

Ui-jo netted 11 goals in 32 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, following on from the 12 strikes which had been scored during the previous campaign.

However, Bordeaux's relegation to the second tier of French football has led to the club's hierarchy being open to cashing in on some of their biggest earners.

Romano adds that negotiations remain ongoing between the two clubs, effectively ruling out any chance of Hwang being signed in time for Wolves' Premier League opener with Leeds United on Saturday.

Nevertheless, it appears that the club have settled on their preferred alternative to Jimenez and Silva as they bid to solve their issues in the final third.

Ui-Jo's compatriot Hee-chan endured a mixed first campaign in English football, netting five goals from his 30 outings in the Premier League.

While Hee-chan has eight goals from his 47 matches for his country, Ui-jo has contributed 16 strikes from the same amount of caps.

Notably, the 29-year-old got on the scoresheet during South Korea's 5-1 defeat to Brazil in June, with the latest of his international goals coming versus Egypt later that month.

Wolves will be confident of eventually wrapping up a deal with the player having less than 12 months remaining on his contract. body check tags ::
