Watford's most valuable players

Sports Mole takes a look at the most valuable players in the Watford squad.

There is no getting away from the fact that it has been a tough season for Watford, but the Hornets are currently outside of the Premier League relegation zone on goal difference.

It remains to be seen whether the 2019-20 campaign will be completed, and it would perhaps be fair to say that Nigel Pearson's side would not be too disappointed if the season was called off.

There is a general feeling that the team have underperformed this term considering their personnel, though, with the Hornets certainly boasting a lot of individual talent.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at the club's most valuable players.

The presence of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Gerard Deulofeu towards the top of this particular list does not come as a surprise. Indeed, both players were in impressive form for the club during their turnaround in form, although the latter is not expected to return until later this year due to a serious knee injury.

Ismaila Sarr, meanwhile, has been in impressive form during the 2019-20 campaign, contributing five goals and four assists in 19 Premier League appearances since arriving at Vicarage Road last summer. The 22-year-old leads the way with a valuation of £22.05m, which is fair considering his talent and potential.

Joao Pedro is also high up the selection, but the 18-year-old has not yet made a Premier League appearance since arriving in January, with his only two outings coming in the FA Cup.

Will Hughes is fifth in the list with a valuation of £13.05m, but the fact that the Englishman is so far ahead the likes of Roberto Pereyra, Christian Kabasele and Troy Deeney is somewhat of a surprise.

There are a lot of Watford players with low market values; the bottom two in the list are both goalkeepers in the shape of Daniel Bachmann and Heurelho Gomes, while 20-year-old midfielder Tom Dele-Bashiru, who arrived from Manchester City last summer, is the lowest-ranked outfield player.

Adrian Mariappa, Jose Holebas and Ben Foster are also in the bottom half, with all three in the latter stages of their career, while Isaac Success is in the crop above with a valuation of £2.88m, having found it difficult to impress since joining the club from Granada.

Nathaniel Chalobah has been a key player in Pearson's success since joining, and the 25-year-old might feel that he deserves to be valued higher than £4.32m, particularly considering that the likes of Adam Masina, Etienne Capoue and Ignacio Pussetto are above him.

Danny Welbeck's valuation has plummeted to £4.95m, meanwhile, with the former Manchester United and Arsenal attacker being restricted to just nine Premier League appearances this season due to injury.
