Pascal Chimbonda joins non-league Washington

Northern League Division One team Washington sign former Tottenham Hotspur and France defender Pascal Chimbonda.

Northern League Division One team Washington have signed former Tottenham Hotspur defender Pascal Chimbonda.

The 38-year-old, who represented Tottenham on 69 occasions in the Premier League, is also a former France international having earned one cap for his country in 2006.

Chimbonda has also turned out for the likes of Wigan Athletic, Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, Queens Park Rangers and Doncaster Rovers during a well-travelled career.

The experienced defender last represented French club AC Arles-Avignon between 2014 and 2015, but has now returned to England for a spell in non-league football.

"To bring somebody of Pascal's calibre is brilliant for the club, the players, staff and town," Washington head coach James Clark told the club's YouTube channel.

Washington finished 19th in the Northern League Division One - level nine of the football pyramid - last season.
