Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Winks wants England call

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks says that he would "love to play for England this year".

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks has revealed that he would "love to play for England this year" as the 21-year-old eyes a spot in Gareth Southgate's squad for the 2018 World Cup.

Winks enjoyed a breakthrough 2016-17 campaign at Spurs, making 33 appearances in all competitions for the London club.

The former England Under-21 international is also expected to be handed a regular role in Mauricio Pochettino's team next term, meanwhile, and he has vowed to 'continue improving' at his London club.

"Obviously I have goals and ambitions that I'd love to achieve this year. Of course I'd love to play for England this year, but that's not something I'm saying I'm going to set myself to do. I'm just going to take it step by step in getting into the team," Winks told The Telegraph.

"I just want to kick on from last season and play more. I had a good season last time and I was really happy with myself but this season I want to improve even more as a player and be involved in as many games as possible."

Winks was a part of the Tottenham team that suffered a 3-0 defeat to Premier League rivals Manchester City in the International Champions Cup on Saturday night.
