Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane will be aiming to break a Premier League final day goalscoring record when the Lilywhites meet Norwich City on Sunday afternoon.

The England captain sparked concern over his availability for the trip to Carrow Road when he pulled out of media commitments on Friday due to illness - the latest in a long line of Spurs players and staff to come down with a bug in the past couple of weeks.

Reports were quick to shoot down any rumours of a wider food poisoning outbreak at the club, 16 years on from the infamous 'lasagne-gate' incident which saw Spurs miss out on the top four on the final day of the 2005-06 season.

However, Antonio Conte has insisted that Kane will "for sure" be a part of the group on Sunday, and the 28-year-old is out for another slice of Premier League history.

Kane has already found the back of the net eight times on the final day of the Premier League season, with only Les Ferdinand and Andy Cole doing so on more occasions.

Ferdinand and Cole both netted nine final-day goals in the competition, meaning that a solitary strike for Kane at Carrow Road would see him equal the duo's record.

A brace for the England skipper would see him become the outright record holder of Premier League final-day goals, with his first one coming in a 1-0 success at Everton on the last day of the 2014-15 campaign.

The striker then netted a hat-trick in a 7-1 final-day thrashing of Hull City in the 2016-17 season before bagging a brace in a thrilling 5-4 win over Leicester City to round off the 2017-18 campaign.

The end of the 2019-20 season saw Kane strike first in a 1-1 draw away to Crystal Palace, while he also found the back of the net in last year's Europa Conference League-clinching 4-2 win at Leicester.

A new chapter in Tottenham's record books is also there for Kane to take, as he could also become the first-ever Spurs player to score a penalty in three consecutive Premier League matches.

Having recovered from a slow start to the season, Kane enters the showdown with Norwich having scored 16 goals and set up eight more in 36 Premier League outings this season.

The 28-year-old's total for the 2021-22 campaign now stands at 26 goals and nine assists from 49 outings in all competitions, but his long-term future is still unclear.

Kane tried and failed to force a move away from the club last summer and sees his contract expire in 2024, but Manchester City have already agreed a deal for Erling Braut Haaland.

A lack of Champions League football could harm Manchester United's efforts to sign him, and Kane has hinted that he would be willing to stay at Spurs if Conte remains in charge.

Tottenham sit two points clear of Arsenal in fourth place and realistically only need a draw against the 20th-placed Canaries to qualify for the 2022-23 Champions League. body check tags ::
