Harry Kane's record vs. Newcastle United

Ahead of Tottenham Hotspur's Premier League clash with Newcastle United, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Harry Kane's record against the Magpies.

Newcastle United's first game of the post-Mike Ashley era sees them welcome Tottenham Hotspur to St James' Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Magpies are on cloud nine following the successful £300m Saudi-backed takeover of the club, while Spurs enter the game on the back of a 2-1 win over Aston Villa just before the international break.

Harry Kane in particular will aim to keep a strong run of form at St James' Park going, but the England captain has not had things his own way in the Premier League so far this term.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Kane's record against the Magpies.

Kane's first taste of action against Newcastle came as a substitute for Tottenham all the way back in August 2012, where the Lilywhites fell to a 2-1 defeat at St James' Park as the striker got five minutes under his belt.

The England skipper's first goal in this Premier League fixture would arrive during a 3-1 win at St James' Park in April 2015, although he did previously score in a 4-0 EFL Cup thrashing of the Magpies a few months' prior.

The striker played the full 90 minutes in both fixtures against Newcastle in the 2015-16 season but failed to register a goal or assist in either game, as Spurs firstly fell to a 2-1 defeat at home before that 5-1 thrashing at St James' Park in May.

Kane would proceed to score the only goal of the game in a 1-0 home win for Spurs in the 2017-18 season, but he would have to wait until July 2020 to make the net ripple against the Magpies again after two games without a goal.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed greater success against Newcastle in recent years, firstly netting a brace in a 3-1 win at St James' Park during the 2019-20 season before assisting Lucas Moura's opener in a 1-1 home draw last term.

Tottenham and Newcastle's most recent game saw them play out a dramatic 2-2 draw at St James' Park back in April, and Kane scored both of his side's goals on the day within five minutes in the first half.

Overall, Kane has come out on the winning side six times in his 13 clashes with Newcastle across all competitions - drawing twice and losing the other five - while he has struck seven goals in the process.

Five of those strikes have come at St James' Park, though, so there may be a sense of optimism among Spurs fans that Kane will finally get off the mark for the Premier League season this weekend.
