Southampton defender Yan Valery is reportedly on the brink of signing for Birmingham City on loan.

Valery has been restricted to just four appearances this season after falling behind Kyle Walker-Peters in the pecking order at St Mary's.

While the 21-year-old recently started against Shrewsbury Town and Arsenal, it appears that Ralph Hasenhuttl is prepared to part ways with the right-back.

According to Foot Mercato, Birmingham are close to signing the Frenchman on a deal until the end of the season.

Aitor Karanka has been desperate to strengthen his first-team squad with Blues sitting in 20th position in the Championship standings.

The report claims that Valery is happy to make the switch to St Andrew's. body check tags ::
