Harry Arter withdraws from ROI squad after Roy Keane row

Harry Arter withdraws from the Republic of Ireland squad following an alleged dispute with assistant manager Roy Keane.

Harry Arter has ruled himself out of international duty with the Republic of Ireland this month following an alleged row with assistant manager Roy Keane.

The Bournemouth midfielder - currently on loan at Cardiff City - was named in the provisional squad for this week's Nations League game with Wales but has now pulled out of Martin O'Neill's squad.

Arter is believed to have got into a row with Keane during a training session in June and has now decided not to be part of his country's plans for the near future.

"Harry's not coming, he's concentrating on his club football at this moment," O'Neill told reporters at a press conference. "I think he wants to just get back on track. His club appearances have been few and far between just recently and he wants to concentrate on that."

Asked if the dispute with Keane had played a part in Arter's decision, he replied: "That might be part of the reason, yes it could well be if that's the case. But he's got a number of things to consider, obviously."

Arter has been part of the national setup since 2015 and has 13 caps to date.
