Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo has played down reports that Kylian Mbappe has been offered a contract extension worth €200m (£166m).

The 23-year-old forward will see his current deal at the Parc des Princes expire in the summer and he is now free to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs.

Mbappe has been heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, but PSG are refusing to give up hope in tying down the 2018 World Cup winner to a new contract.

Discussions between both parties are believed to be ongoing, but Leonardo has denied claims of a big-money offer on the table for the Frenchman.

Speaking to L'Equipe, Leonardo said: "That's not true, we haven't sent a precise offer.

"There is one important element: I think that the last thing we will put on this contract will be the amount. We want to put him in the best conditions to become the best player possible. I think it will take two minutes at the end to put the amount."

When asked about PSG's chances of keeping hold of Mbappe, Leonardo added: "Our chances of keeping him? I can't say, but we have possibilities.

"As long as there is no signature, we will try everything, we will do everything to keep him. I don't think he will judge based on the result against Real Madrid."

Mbappe has made 205 appearances for PSG across all competitions, scoring 156 goals and registering 78 assists. body check tags ::
