Real Madrid relegate Levante to the Segunda Division by beating them 6-0 at Bernabeu in La Liga on Thursday night.

Levante will play outside of La Liga next season for just the second time since 2010, with the club's relegation from the top tier confirmed on Thursday night courtesy of a 6-0 defeat at Real Madrid.

The Frogs gave the champions a guard of honour before kickoff, but Los Blancos were not in the mood to hand out any favours at Bernabeu, scoring twice inside the opening 19 minutes through Ferland Mendy and Karim Benzema to all but take the match away from the visitors.

Rodrygo then netted a third for Real Madrid in the 34th minute, before Vinicius Junior made it four for the Champions League finalists on the stroke of the interval.

Vinicius then added his second in the 68th minute before completing his hat-trick late on to cap a miserable night for the visitors.

Levante last played in the Segunda Division in 2016-17, winning the title with 84 points to secure an immediate return to the top flight, where they have finished 15th, 15th, 12th and 14th in the last four campaigns.

The Valencia-based outfit had picked up seven points from their four matches ahead of the clash with Real Madrid, including a 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad on May 6.

However, the defeat at Bernabeu has left them bottom of the table on 29 points, six points behind 17th-placed Cadiz, who have a superior head-to-head record, having taken four points from the two meetings between the two teams this season.

Alaves sit 19th on 31 points, while Mallorca are currently in 18th on 33 points, two points behind 17th-placed Cadiz, who suffered a 3-0 defeat at Real Sociedad on Thursday night.

Levante, who are two-time Segunda Division champions, will play their penultimate match of the season at home to Alaves on May 15 before finishing their 2021-22 campaign away to Rayo Vallecano on May 22.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, will take on Cadiz and Real Betis in their final two league fixtures before facing Liverpool in the Champions League final on May 28. body check tags ::
