Paris Saint-Germain have announced that manager Mauricio Pochettino has left the club after just 18 months in charge.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss replaced Thomas Tuchel at the Parc des Princes helm in 2021 and won a total of three trophies during his time in charge of the capital club.

Pochettino secured Trophee des Champions and Coupe de France glory within his first 12 months of work in Paris, although he failed to beat Lille to the 2020-21 Ligue 1 title.

However, PSG won the 2021-22 top-flight crown with four games to spare last term - amassing 86 points and 15 clear of second-placed Marseille - but Pochettino failed in his bid for Champions League glory.

PSG were dumped out by Manchester City in the 2020-21 semi-finals before suffering a catastrophic collapse against Real Madrid in the last-16 in 2021-22, losing 3-1 at the Bernabeu after a 1-0 first-leg win at home.

Club chiefs were widely expected to sack Pochettino in the wake of their European capitulation, and PSG have now confirmed that the 50-year-old is no longer at the club.

"Paris Saint-Germain confirm that Mauricio Pochettino has ended his role at the club. The club would like to thank Mauricio Pochettino and his staff for their work and wish them the best for the future," a statement read.

Pochettino - who had another 12 months left to run on his contract with the French champions - leaves PSG having recorded a total of 56 wins, 13 draws and 15 defeats from his 84 games in charge.

The former Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton and Espanyol manager is believed to have agreed a compensation package with the club alongside his staff worth up to €20m (£17.1m), and he is set to be replaced by Christophe Galtier.

PSG have scheduled a press conference for later this afternoon, where Galtier will be officially unveiled as Pochettino's replacement after his departure from Nice.

Galtier oversaw Lille's historic 2020-21 Ligue 1 title triumph before leaving for Nice, and he steered Les Aiglons back into Europe during his only season in charge at the Allianz Riviera.

However, Nice were forced to settle for Europa Conference League football after finishing fifth, winning just six of their final 13 games in the 2021-22 season and dropping out of the Champions League places as a result.

PSG are believed to have paid Nice a fee of €10m (£8.6m) to acquire Galtier's services, and Les Aiglons announced that the Frenchman had left the club last month ahead of his move to Paris.

Lucien Favre has arrived at Les Aiglons to replace the 55-year-old Galtier, who will reunite with former Lille sporting director Luis Campos at PSG for the 2022-23 season. body check tags ::
