Summer signing Andy Carroll will reportedly play no part for Newcastle United against Liverpool in Saturday's Premier League fixture.

Andy Carroll has reportedly been ruled out of Newcastle United's Premier League fixture against Liverpool on Saturday.

After securing a return to his former club last month, Carroll was immediately ruled out of action for the first month of the season due to ankle surgery.

However, manager Steve Bruce suggested at the time that the forward may be ready to feature in the squad for the showdown with the Champions League winners.

That appears highly unlikely, though, as the Daily Mail claims that the former England frontman is yet to make his return to training.

The report adds that while there has been no setback in his recovery, the 30-year-old will remain out of contention until he proves his fitness.

The Magpies face games with Brighton & Hove Albion and Leicester City before the end of September.
