Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Morecambe and Charlton Athletic, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Morecambe will be looking to build on their dramatic late winner at the weekend when they welcome in-form Charlton Athletic to the Globe Arena on Tuesday evening.

The hosts won for the first time in seven League One matches on Saturday, whilst the visitors continued their recent resurgence under their caretaker manager with a victory themselves.

Match preview

Morecambe and striker Cole Stockton made the headlines at the weekend when the latter scored a potential goal-of-the-season contender to provide his side with a dramatic 2-1 win at Fleetwood Town.

Having already scored a remarkable long-range lob earlier in the campaign, Stockton beat Fleetwood goalkeeper Alex Cairns with an incredible strike from inside his own half deep into second-half stoppage time, which appeared unstoppable even if Cairns were closer to his goal line anyway.

That goal provided the Shrimps with a vital three points to lift them into 18th place in the League One table, and create a three-point gap between themselves and Shrewsbury Town in the relegation places.

Were it not for that sensational effort, as well as Stockton's other 11 league goals this campaign, Morecambe would be finding themselves in a heap of trouble and heading for an immediate relegation back to League Two.

However, the circumstances of the late winner will provide Steve Robinson's side with a much-needed boost ahead of the visit of Charlton on Tuesday, in what will be a tough encounter for the relegation candidates.

In the six winless league games prior to Saturday's win at Fleetwood, scoring goals had not been the issue for Morecambe, as it has not been all season, with Robinson's men being the joint-sixth highest scorers in the division.

Instead, the 31 goals conceded - joint-second worst in the third tier - has been the concern since achieving promotion last campaign, and that shaky defence is sure to be tested again at the Globe Arena on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Charlton were successful themselves on Saturday, with Ben Purrington and Conor Washington netting second-half goals in a 2-0 victory over top-of-the-table Plymouth Argyle at The Valley.

That victory was Charlton's fourth in five league games since Johnnie Jackson's appointment as caretaker boss, with second-placed Rotherham United being the only side to avoid defeat against Jackson so far - in a 1-1 draw.

The calls for Jackson to be appointed permanent manager are growing by the week, and considering the turnaround in results since he took temporary charge, it would be incredible were he not given the opportunity to lead the Addicks on a permanent basis.

Prior to his stewardship, Charlton were on a run of one league win in eight matches, and were fighting relegation to League Two as a result, despite being tipped for a promotion challenge in one of the toughest League One campaigns to date.

With the south-east London club being hampered by so much turmoil in off-the-pitch issues for a number of years, stability and hope is finally in sight, and Charlton supporters are keen for Jackson to lead them back to where they feel they belong in the top two tiers of English football.

The next challenge facing them on this strong run of form is Charlton's first-ever trip to the Globe Arena, with the expectation of three points placed on their shoulders.

Team News

Morecambe are likely to remain without Jonathan Obika again on Tuesday, with the forward continuing his return to fitness as he awaits his first-team debut for the Shrimps.

Aaron Wildig is also set to miss out again following his ankle injury in training, but Courtney Duffus and Shane McLoughlin returned to the squad at the weekend and came through unscathed.

After a strong performance and a successful result, an unchanged lineup could be named by Robinson, with no fresh injury concerns to report in the aftermath of the dramatic win.

As for the visitors, Jayden Stockley will serve the second of his three-match suspension at Morecambe, with the striker seeing red two games ago at Burton Albion.

Washington replaced him in the lineup at the weekend and scored on his return, but Jason Pearce and Josh Davison will need to be assessed after being replaced during the second half due to injuries.

Davison's appeared to be a slight niggle, whilst Pearce's knee injury could be more serious, which would likely see Chris Gunter come into the back three in possibly just the one enforced change.

Morecambe possible starting lineup:
Andresson; McLaughlin, O'Connor, Delaney, Leigh; McCalmont, Jones, McLoughlin; Ayunga, Stockton, Gnahoua

Charlton Athletic possible starting lineup:
MacGillivray; Gunter, Clare, Famewo; Dobson; Jaiyesimi, Gilbey, Lee, Purrington; Davison, Washington

We say: Morecambe 1-2 Charlton Athletic

Morecambe's games are usually open with plenty of goals as of late, so the same will be expected here in another entertaining encounter.

The hosts will put up a fight and are usually prolific in front of goal, but with a leaky defence being up against an in-form Charlton side full of confidence, we are predicting yet another win for the Addicks under Jackson.
