Former Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge does not expect the Bundesliga champions to win the race for Borussia Dortmund's Erling Braut Haaland.

The Bavarian giants are one of several top European teams aiming to strike a deal for Haaland in the summer of 2022, when his £68m release clause will be active.

However, clubs in England, Spain and France are all expected to enter an intense battle for the striker's services, and Rummenigge fears that his preference will be to take on a new challenge away from the Bundesliga.

Speaking to Sport Bild, the ex-Bayern CEO said: "He has become an absolute figurehead in the league. But I'm afraid he won't be staying in the Bundesliga.

"The numbers that are circulating show that it's difficult to keep him in Germany. I assume that his future lies abroad."

Chelsea failed in their bid to prise Haaland away from the Westfalenstadion earlier this summer, while Manchester United have supposedly earmarked the Norwegian as their top target for next year.

Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have also been credited with an interest in Haaland, who has registered 63 goals from 64 games in a Dortmund shirt in all tournaments. body check tags ::
