Ralf Rangnick: 'Manchester United obviously need a new striker'

Ralf Rangnick claims that Manchester United's need for a new striker is "obvious" as Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani reach the twilights of their careers.

Manchester United interim head coach Ralf Rangnick has claimed that the Red Devils' need for a new striker is "obvious".

The Old Trafford outfit's attack has been spearheaded by Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani this season - at a combined age of 71 - with the pair bagging 16 goals in all tournaments between them.

However, Cavani has only struck two of those and is set to leave at the end of the season, while Ronaldo is also alleged to have planned talks with agent Jorge Mendes over a possible exit.

The Red Devils continue to be linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland, and Rangnick has now addressed Man United's need for a new number nine.

"This is obvious. Edinson's contract is running out in the summer and the club needs the best possible centre-forward. I think everyone is aware of that," Rangnick told reporters at a press conference.

Haaland is thought to be one of four players on Man United's striker wishlist, with Harry Kane, Lautaro Martinez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin also mentioned as possible targets. body check tags ::
