Jose Mourinho 'launches Marouane Fellaini charm offensive'

A report claims that Jose Mourinho has launched a public charm offensive in an attempt to get Marouane Fellaini to put pen to paper on a contract extension.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly launched a charm offensive in a desperate bid to convince Marouane Fellaini to remain at Old Trafford.

The Belgium international is out of contract at the end of the campaign and therefore free to speak to foreign clubs from January 1.

Besiktas are one of a number of clubs monitoring the situation as Fellaini, who joined United from Everton in 2013, continues to weigh up his options.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Mourinho is concerned by the lack of movement in contract talks and has deliberately started making public declarations.

Having already privately urged the 29-year-old to put pen to paper, the report suggests that Mourinho's comments in the wake of last weekend's 1-0 loss to Chelsea - when describing the midfielder's 30-minute display as "fantastic" - was a further ploy to tempt Fellaini into signing a contract extension.

Fellaini's appearance from the bench at Stamford Bridge was his first outing in a month, having picked up an injury on international duty in October.
