Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has said that he 'loves' playing under Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag amid the speculation surrounding his future.

The 26-year-old was again a regular at club level during the 2022-23 campaign, featuring on 39 occasions in all competitions, contributing three goals and one assist in the process.

However, the Scotland international only started on 10 occasions in the Premier League, with Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes and Fred all ahead of him in the pecking order.

McTominay has another two years left to run on his contract at Old Trafford, with the option of a further 12 months, but there has recently been speculation surrounding a possible summer exit.

Newcastle United were heavily linked with the Scot in January and are allegedly preparing to reignite their interest in the upcoming market.

However, McTominay has said that he is happy at Old Trafford and 'loves the club'.

"Obviously, the transition in terms of his style is very, very different to some other coaches, but, as I say, that's football," McTominay told MUTV when asked about Ten Hag.

"He's always having you thinking, and having you think about new ideas and stuff like that. It's good, that's the best way to be with football: open-minded and going into every game, if he asks you to do something, you do it to the best of your abilities and you try to learn it as best as you can. I think, for me, it's great. I love it."

McTominay also opened up on his desire to add more goals to his game moving forward, having only managed 19 strikes in 209 appearances for Man United from central midfield.

"Every goal that you score is special but, like you say, I should score more goals than I do," he added.

"I do get into good positions and I can shoot left foot and right foot, which, obviously, I'm confident to do. I feel like the more opportunities you get to play, the more that can come out.

"When you're on your holidays, you need to relax and take it easy, but I've enjoyed every minute of it. I'm someone who loves football and I love this club.

"Whatever happens and however many minutes you play, I'm still going to train hard every single day and give my best for the team and always be there, contribute with some goals every now and again, maybe when you come on, but I feel like, for myself, it's keep your head down and keep working."

Fred's future at Old Trafford is also being called into question, with Man United widely expected to move for a new central midfielder this summer; Chelsea's Mason Mount is thought to be the leading target, but the Red Devils remain in the race for West Ham United's Declan Rice. body check tags ::
