Marcus Rashford's 'priority' this summer is to remain at Manchester United, providing that he is given guarantees over game time, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The England international has struggled to make his mark for the 20-time English champions during the 2021-22 campaign, managing only five goals and two assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.

In the Premier League, Rashford has just four goals and two assists in 25 outings, while he was an unused substitute against Brentford on Monday after struggling against Chelsea last week.

The 24-year-old's future has been the subject of much speculation in recent months, with a number of clubs, including Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain, said to be interested in his signature.

Rashford's contract at Old Trafford is due to expire next summer, although the club have the option to activate a one-year extension, which could keep him at the club until June 2024.

However, according to Romano, despite the speculation surrounding a possible summer exit, the Man United academy product wants to remain at the club.

The journalist, though, in his column for Caught Offside, has said that the Englishman wants "guarantees of game time" from incoming head coach Erik ten Hag.

"Rashford's priority is to remain at Man United only if he will have guarantees of game time, Marcus wants to be important for the club and hopes for the World Cup with England. Ten Hag will decide together with the player," wrote the Italian.

Edinson Cavani will definitely leave Old Trafford on a free transfer at the end of June, while Anthony Martial's future is unclear, with Man United preparing to sign at least one new centre-forward this summer.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo is believed to be keen to remain in Manchester even if Champions League football is not on offer next term, with the Red Devils facing an almost impossible task to make the top four.

Romano has also claimed that there have not yet been any negotiations with any other clubs for Rashford, who will undergo talks with Ten Hag in the near future.

The forward came through the youth system at Man United, representing their various age groups before making his first-team debut against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League in February 2016, netting two goals in the process.

In all, Rashford has turned out for the Red Devils on 303 occasions in all competitions, contributing 93 goals and 57 assists in the process.

The Englishman has only started 13 Premier League matches this season, though, and he faces an uphill task to make the Three Lions squad for the 2022 World Cup.

Rashford will hope to be back in the starting side when Man United travel to Brighton & Hove Albion in the league on Saturday, with Jadon Sancho still absent through illness. body check tags ::
