Manchester United have confirmed that Paul Pogba will be leaving the club on a free transfer this summer.

The 29-year-old initially moved to the Red Devils from Le Havre in 2009, progressing through the youth system at Old Trafford before making his first-team debut in 2011.

Pogba only made seven appearances for Man United during his first spell at the club, though, and left the club to join Juventus on a free transfer in 2012.

The France international made 178 appearances during a successful spell with the Old Lady, winning four Serie A titles and two Coppa Italia crowns.

Pogba's performances in Italy saw Man United re-sign him in a £90m deal, but he has largely found it difficult to show his best form for the 20-time English champions during his second spell at the club.

The midfielder's future has been the subject of much debate over the last couple of years, and he was linked with a move away last summer but ultimately remained at Old Trafford.

Pogba ended the 2021-22 campaign with one goal and nine assists in 27 appearances for Man United, but he was absent in the latter stages of the season due to a calf problem.

The midfielder's final outing of the campaign came against Liverpool at Anfield on April 19, limping off the field inside the opening 10 minutes of what proved to be a 4-0 defeat for Ralf Rangnick's side.

Pogba was pictured stepping up his recovery from the injury in the latter stages of the season, but he was not included in the squad against Crystal Palace on May 22.

Man United have now confirmed that the Frenchman will be leaving the Red Devils on a free transfer for the second time in his career.

"The club can announce that Paul Pogba will leave Manchester United at the end of June, upon the expiry of his contract," read a statement on the club's official website.

"Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Paul on his successful career, and thank him for his contributions to Manchester United. We wish him all the best for the next steps on a remarkable journey."

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid continue to be credited with an interest in the midfielder, but Juventus are the favourites to re-sign him on a free transfer.

Pogba's representatives have allegedly held positive talks with the Italian giants over a return to Turin this summer.

There had been claims that Juventus were struggling to meet the midfielder's wage demands, but talks are believed to have progressed over the last week.

Pogba's calf problem prevented him from joining up with the France squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League games, starting with Friday's clash with Denmark.

However, he is expected to be available to begin pre-season training with his new club in July.

Pogba leaves Man United having won the EFL Cup and Europa League, with both trophies coming during Jose Mourinho's time at the club. body check tags ::
