Man United transfer news: Sancho to stay, move planned for Costa, City hopeful over Koulibaly

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Manchester United on Tuesday, August 11.

Manchester United extended their season by at least one more game on Monday night as they defeated Copenhagen in the Europa League quarter-finals.

However, despite their prolonged participation in the competition, work is continuing behind the scenes as they bid to make new signings.

Although much of the recent talk has been regarding Jadon Sancho, United are also having to contemplate other targets ahead of the new campaign, which is due to begin on September 12.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Old Trafford.

Borussia Dortmund chief rules out Jadon Sancho departure amid Man Utd talk

Despite Sancho being expected to make the switch to United in the near future, Borussia Dortmund have not been shy in stating that their deadline for a transfer to take place is August 10.

Many feel that yesterday's date is irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, including United, who have so far refused to meet their demands.

However, on Monday afternoon, sporting director Michael Zorc told reporters that Sancho would now be staying at the Westfalenstadion for at least another 12 months.

Zorc also revealed that Dortmund had extended Sancho's contract to 2023, a development which has previously not been made public knowledge.

Manchester United consider Douglas Costa as Jadon Sancho alternative?

With Dortmund playing hardball over Sancho's future, it has left United to think about moving for a cheaper alternative to the England international.

Despite a wide array of attackers being linked with the Premier League giants, it appears that club officials have taken an interest in a player who is out of favour at Juventus.

According to Tuttosport, United are prepared to move for Douglas Costa, who is free to leave Turin after the managerial the appointment of Andrea Pirlo.

The Brazilian, now 29 years of age, made just seven starts and 17 substitute appearances in Serie A and the Champions League this season.

Manchester City 'keen to avoid Kalidou Koulibaly bidding war with Man United'

At various points over the past two years, United have been heavily linked with an approach for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

While the Serie A outfit have frequently demanded in the region of £80m, that valuation has allegedly been reduced to their failure to qualify for next season's Champions League.

However, with plenty of options at their disposal in the middle of their backline, it is unclear whether United are still interested in the Senegal international.

According to Manchester Evening News, neighbours Manchester City are hoping that their rivals publicly rule themselves out of the race for the in-demand player.

Despite already signing Nathan Ake from Bournemouth, Pep Guardiola wants to bring in another centre-back as he looks to replace Eric Garcia and Nicolas Otamendi.
