Manchester United are reportedly set to complete a double deal for Benfica's Darwin Nunez and Sporting Lisbon's Goncalo Inacio in the early stages of the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils will overhaul their squad this summer, with a number of players leaving on free transfers, while incoming head coach Erik ten Hag will allegedly have £100m to spend on new signings.

The 20-time English champions are expected to add at least one new forward this summer, with Edinson Cavani set to leave on a free transfer, and Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial facing uncertain futures.

Nunez has been strongly linked with a switch to Old Trafford, and according to Portuguese transfer expert Pedro Almeida, the Uruguay international is heading for Manchester.

Meanwhile, Almeida also claims that the Red Devils are closing in on a deal for Inacio, who will arrive to boost the team's struggling defence for the 2022-23 campaign.

Nunez has been in impressive form for Benfica during the 2021-22 campaign, scoring 34 goals and registering four assists in 41 appearances in all competitions.

The 22-year-old still has more than three years left to run on his contract in Portugal but will potentially be available for a fee in the region of £65m.

The Red Devils are one of a number of clubs linked with his services, though, with Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain also believed to be admirers.

Since arriving from Almeria in September 2020, the South American has scored 48 goals and registered 16 assists in 85 appearances for Benfica in all competitions.

Nunez could play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford next term, with the Portugal international expected to stay at the club for another season despite the widespread speculation surrounding his future.

Meanwhile, a recent report claimed that Man United are planning to activate the release clause in Inacio's Sporting contract to bring him to Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old, who has scored five times and provided two assists in 44 appearances for Sporting this term, is thought to have a €45m (£38.5m) buy-out fee in his current deal.

The Portugal Under-21s international has made 69 appearances for the Green and Whites in all competitions, contributing seven goals and four assists in the process.

The Red Devils, who are currently battling West Ham United for sixth spot in the Premier League table, have conceded 56 league goals this season, with only five teams shipping more goals in England's top flight in 2021-22.

Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe could all be on their way out of the club this summer, but Harry Maguire is likely to remain despite his struggles during the 2021-22 campaign, with Ten Hag thought to be keen to work with the England international next term. body check tags ::
