Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has reportedly emerged as a potential transfer target for Manchester United.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a successful stint at Brighton since his arrival in 2018, making a total of 90 appearances in all competitions.

Two caps have also been earned with Spain, enhancing his reputation in the process, but Sanchez has since fallen out of favour with Seagulls head coach Roberto De Zerbi.

Sanchez lost his place to Jason Steele during the closing months of the season and was subsequently allowed to miss the team's closing Premier League fixtures.

Brighton have since signed Anderlecht stopper Bart Verbruggen, who will now challenge Steele for a spot in the starting lineup, and that has effectively left Sanchez surplus to requirements.

With two years left on Sanchez's contract, Brighton are in a position where they do not have to sell for a cut-price fee, yet all realistic offers are likely to be entertained.

According to the Daily Mail, United are contemplating whether to make an approach for Sanchez over the coming weeks.

If reports are to be believed, United are pressing ahead with their efforts to sign Inter Milan's Andre Onana as a replacement for long-serving first choice David de Gea, who has officially become a free agent.

Although a fee is yet to be agreed between the two clubs, the current expectation is that the Cameroon international will eventually arrive at Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, Erik ten Hag may sign two new goalkeepers if the opportunity arises due to Dean Henderson being likely to be sold after a loan spell at Nottingham Forest.

United also have Tom Heaton on their books, but the veteran Englishman is viewed as the club's third-choice stopper rather than someone who can provide competition for the number one.

The report alleges that Brighton will look to recoup £30m for Sanchez, a fee that United will almost certainly not pay due to their need to fulful FFP criteria this summer.

That said, it appears that negotiations may still occur at some stage, providing that Brighton do not receive their asking price from another interested party. body check tags ::
