Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres during this summer's transfer window.

The 24-year-old has scored three times in 35 appearances for the Yellow Submarine this season, and a number of clubs are said to be interested in his signature.

Barcelona and Real Madrid continue to be linked with the Spain international, who is believed to have a €65m (£56m) release clause in his current deal with Unai Emery's side.

However, according to La Razon, Man United are the side 'best positioned' to secure the defender's signature in the upcoming market.

The report claims that Torres would 'welcome' a switch to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, who are thought to be looking for a long-term partner for club captain Harry Maguire.

The Spaniard said last week that he was "very calm" amid the speculation surrounding his future. body check tags ::
