Liverpool are reportedly keen to sign Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram this summer.

The 25-year-old, who represented France at the 2022 World Cup, was strongly linked with a move away from his Bundesliga side during the January transfer window.

Chelsea and Manchester United were both credited with an interest in the striker, who only has a deal with Monchengladbach until the end of the campaign.

However, despite his contract situation, Thuram remained in Germany, with the Frenchman set to finish the campaign with Die Borussen before potentially departing on a free transfer.

According to AS, Liverpool have joined the race for the forward, with Reds head coach Jurgen Klopp viewing him as the ideal acquisition on a free transfer.

The report claims that Arsenal, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid are also keeping a close eye on his situation in Germany.

Monchengladbach have allegedly not given up hope of convincing Thuram to stay, but the Bundesliga outfit are preparing for his departure this summer due to the volume of interested clubs.

Thuram has been in impressive form at club level during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring 13 goals and registering four assists in 20 appearances in all competitions.

The Frenchman has netted 10 goals and registered three assists in 18 Bundesliga outings, in addition to three goals and one assist in two matches in the DFB-Pokal.

Liverpool have brought in Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Fabio Carvalho, Calvin Ramsay and Arthur over the last two transfer windows, with the former arriving in January.

Much of the club's summer business is likely to depend on their final position in the Premier League, though, as they currently face a huge task to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Liverpool could secure a spot in the 2023-24 European Cup by winning the competition this term, but they are 10th in the Premier League table, 11 points behind fourth-placed Newcastle United.

Klopp's side suffered a 3-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the league on Saturday, with their last success in England's top flight coming at home to Leicester City on December 30.

The Reds will be bidding to return to winning ways when they host Everton for the Merseyside derby on February 13 before heading to Newcastle five days later. body check tags ::
