Manchester United have reportedly held discussions with Kobbie Mainoo's representatives in the hope of coming to an agreement over a new long-term deal at Old Trafford.

The midfielder, who has been with the Red Devils since the age of nine, made his senior debut for the 20-time English champions last January, and he ended the 2022-23 campaign with three outings for the first team.

Mainoo has cemented his spot in the senior squad this season, though, featuring on 13 occasions in all competitions, scoring twice in the process.

The 18-year-old has become a key player for Erik ten Hag's side in recent weeks, with each of his nine Premier League appearances this season coming as a starter.

Mainoo is again set to be in the XI on Sunday afternoon when Man United bid to make it three straight Premier League victories against Aston Villa.

The midfielder signed a new contract at Old Trafford in February 2023, with his terms running until June 2027, with the option of a further 12 months.

However, there have recently been claims that the Englishman is in line for a new and improved deal due to his standout performances for the Red Devils this term.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Man United have already prepared a contract proposal for their academy product, who is in line for a salary increase.

Romano claims that discussions with the youngster's representatives have taken place, and there is confidence from all parties that an agreement can be reached.

Mainoo had seemingly been in line to start the 2023-24 campaign in the first team, but he was sidelined until November due to an ankle injury which he suffered during pre-season.

The teenager's first senior goal came against Newport County in the FA Cup on January 28, before he netted his first Premier League goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers on February 2.

Mainoo's form has led to suggestions that England head coach Gareth Southgate is considering handing him a call-up for the March internationals with Brazil and Belgium.

The midfielder has represented England Under-17s, England Under-18s and England Under-19s, but he also qualifies for Ghana, and Randy Abbey, who is a member of the executive council of the Ghana FA, has confirmed that the African nation are keen to secure Mainoo's services at international level. body check tags ::
